The problem
Shops selling age-restricted products (alcohol, vape, tobacco, adult content) must enforce youth protection rules (JMStV / JuSchG) — violations can result in legal warnings. The most popular free age gate only blocks the entire site, is English-only, and has no WooCommerce category logic. Other options are bloated SaaS tools with ID verification that most shops simply don't need.

Is this a legally robust age check?
A confirmation or date-of-birth check effectively keeps minors out and meets the standard duty of care for most shops — but it is not a hard ID check. An ID/estimation integration for regulated sectors that require identity verification is on the Pro roadmap.
