E-Commerce Development: WooCommerce, Shopify & Custom
A shop is more than a theme with a cart: checkout optimization, payment and shipping integrations, performance under load — and, since 2025, accessibility under Germany's BFSG. I build and optimize shops on WooCommerce, Shopify and custom platforms.
From first shop to platform
For getting started, WooCommerce or Shopify is usually the right call — fast to launch, proven flows. It gets interesting when your business model deviates from the standard: digital products with licensing, member areas, affiliate structures or multi-tier pricing. That custom logic is my specialty — for example a learning-and-sales platform with Digistore24 integration and a multi-tier affiliate system.
As the developer of my own WooCommerce plugins (checkout fields, wishlist, back-in-stock notifications) I know the platform from the inside — not just as a user.
Conversion, performance and BFSG
Every second of load time costs revenue; every unclear checkout step costs orders. I optimize shops measurably: Core Web Vitals, structured data for product rich results and accessible checkout flows — which the BFSG now mandates for most B2C shops anyway.
Typical work
Shop builds
WooCommerce or Shopify — theme, payments, shipping, taxes, legally sound setup.
Custom plugins
Bespoke shop logic as a clean plugin instead of theme hacks.
Checkout optimization
Fewer abandonments through leaner forms and clear error guidance.
BFSG compliance
Accessible checkout flows — a legal requirement for B2C shops since June 2025.
Common questions
WooCommerce or Shopify — which do you recommend?
Shopify if you want to sell quickly without your own hosting and can live with platform limits. WooCommerce if you need full control, custom logic or particular privacy requirements. I advise honestly — even when the answer is 'no custom build needed'.
